According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, more than 1,700 bear sightings have been reported statewide in 2026, compared with just under 1,200 at the same time last year — an increase of more than 40%.

Wildlife officials attribute the increased drought conditions with depleting natural food sources and bears are pushing closer to developed areas to find food. 

Please help reduce bear-human conflicts by securing trash and other food sources around your home.

Remember:

• Only put trash out on the day of collection - per the District's Protective Convenants
• Secure trash and garbage, pet food, and bird feeders
• Never feed wildlife
• Bring bird feeders inside when bears are active
• Clean outdoor grills after use
• Keep garage doors and windows closed
• Use bear-proof containers when possible
